Hi, I have a concern and two questions. I moved to Utah three years ago. As I have settled into my new life here I have met many from varying backgrounds, ie. neighbors, business associates, community leaders, etc. Most of them are good, decent, God fearing people of high moral fiber. Some are Catholic and others, are Baptist or Christian like myself, but many are Mormon by faith. I also interact with two individuals who profess atheism. All good people. All of the above mentioned individuals either believe or respect the Mormon Faith. However, there is another group I have met here, they are so unique that they really stand out to me. Almost like a sub-culture in Utah. It does not take long to recognize a member of this culture, they are full of hate and loathing, so much so that they are almost consumed with it. Their attitude effects the way they act and talk, and even effets their associations. The focus of their hate are Mormons and the Mormon church. When I have occasion to converse with anyone from this group I find that they will go out of thier way to warn me about Mormons. They tell me things I find hard to believe. All in an effort to instill fear in me of Mormons and their church. For an "outsider" like me, this is such a weird phenomena. I have never experienced such hate and loathing before, so my questions to you are- Does this sub-culture have a valid reason for their feelings? And what am I missing that makes them hate you so?
