How can Mormons claim to be Christian when their beliefs about Christ and his nature/divinity differ from the entire Christian world?

1. Definition
What is the definition of "Christian" to you? Dictionary.com says:
(noun) A person who believes in Jesus Christ;
A person who exemplifies in his or her life the teachings of Christ.
Mormons meet these qualifications. The name of Jesus Christ is even in the official tile of the Mormon church: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
What makes anyone else a Christian?

2. Christians
We're only different from the entire Christian world if you leave us out of it. One of our leaders gave a remarkable address on this subject recently, you can find it here:

"The Only True God and Jesus Christ Whom He Hath Sent"

Aside from that, all I can do is ask, if our entire religion is founded on the teachings of Jesus Christ, our belief on Him as the Savior of mankind, His divine birth, His infinite atonement, His sacrifice on Calvary, and His miraculous resurrection from the dead after three days time. If all this is the beginning and the end of our religion. (and it is) then what else should we call ourselves? lds.orgnull

Yup. We are Christians.

What differences are you referring to?

4. Savior
But you don't believe Jesus is your savior, you only believe he bought you more time to save yourselves.

[But you don't believe Jesus is your savior, you only believe he bought you more time to save yourselves.]

C'mon...seriously. What if I proclaimed to know more about YOU than you do? Wouldn't that be hypocritical? Why do so many anti-Mormons claim to know more about our beliefs than we do and why are they so intent on telling us what we believe?

I 100% recognize Him as my Savior. Everything we do points to Him. How can you tell me that I don't accept Him as my Savior? Is it because we believe that Jesus asks us something in return in order for us to obtain salvation (ie. getting baptized, keeping the commandments, etc)?

Do you believe that once you accept Jesus, you're home free and that you can do whatever you want without consequence? That seems un-Christian to me.

Please read this scripture to see that accepting Jesus is not enough to live with Him again. We actually have to "do the will" of the Father. Those are Jesus' words, not from a Mormon.

6. RE: Savior
I also know that without the Savior, I am nothing. I cannot attain anything by myself, and only through His merits and his merciful love and kindness can I ever have the slightest hope to return to my Father in Heaven.

7. Yes
"Christian" is an Extremely wide category. this maybe slightly rough shot, but if you want to know whether a certain faith is part of the Christian tradition, look at the text they use. if it 1) says Bilble on it, and 2) is broken into The Old and New Testament (lacking a section entitled Qur'an), then you are probably dealing with a Christian. Like I said this maybe a rather obtuse approach, but it allows someone with no experience in Christian theology a chance to grasp the idea of what is a Christian.

In the interest of full faith and disclosure I am not a Christian, an agnostic or atheist.

8. The Trinity
True Mormons don't believe in the trinity (the belief that God, Christ, and the Holy Ghost are one). does this mean we don't believe Christ was our Savior? Also, why do most Christians believe in the trinity? When Christ was baptized, doesn't it say that God the Father speak to Christ and that the Holy Ghost descended like a dove? If you ask me it seems hard to talk to yourself and descend upon your self.

9. Dave.
... You see, it\'s that kind of talk that hurts my feelings :/

We just don\'t believe that you can say \"I ACCEPT ME SOME CHRIST\" and then be set for life.
