Do Mormons really believe that you will become Gods if you are righteous?

1. Thats my understanding
Married people who make it to the Celestial kingdom, get to have their own... whatever, planet, universe, something... and make a world or worlds, similar to this one.

2. Yup, Cuz that's what God Promised wasn
We are promised that if we are faithful, we will become "joint heirs with Christ." And what is Christ the Heir to? Everything that God (our Heavenly Father) has. That has no limitations. Romans 8:16-17; 16 The Spirit itself beareth awitness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

We will become gods someday like our heavenly father. God wants us to become like him and Christ and in order to become more like God we have to become gods and that makes sense to me and we have to become like our Father in Heaven to recieve perfect joy in Heaven. The Bible says that we will be joint heirs with christ and recieve all thet he has and He is a god so that means becoming a god also.!

5. Are you sure??
I am a Christian who was led to this website because I myself had a few questions.

I saw this question up and it caught my attention.

are you sure that we can become God ourselves??
I highly doubt this...since that would imply that we can do anything we want.
Rather, I always thought of it as since we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior, we are clean and are allowed in heaven and are entitled to what is God's...but not that we become God ourselves.

6. To Peter
Are we not children of our Heavenly Father? We are God's children - not his pets or crops.

To become like God does not happen on this earth. It extends in to the eternities. It will take hundreds, thousands, millions of years or longer for us to learn, develop, and refine ourselves. But that is only to qualify ourselves for God's blessings. Remember we cannot do it ourselves. We can repent, work and do everything to qualify ourselves to be worthy of God's grace. But it is our Heavenly Father who makes it possible. We cannot make ourselves God. It is only through the grace, gift, and power of God that it can ever happen.

Also - if you say we can never become God ourselves - aren't you limiting what God can do? It is not us who does it - it is God.

7. to jett
I always thought of it this way.

We are God's children. Correct in the sense that we were adopted when we recieved the the Holy spirit, not in the literal sense. Keep in mind, God is God, and he is all powerful and knows what is best. I am not God, and I do not know what is best, nor am I all powerful, nor am I all knowing. but the only way that I can see myself becoming a God myself is if it is in His divine will.

also, we are cleansed through Jesus and are therefore permitted into heaven, but we aren't divine. When we are cleansed we are taken a step back and are now in the shoes of adam and eve. They weren't divine like God, but they were created by him to recieve his love and to do his will...but they were granted free will and that led us to where we are now.

I am not divine and there are things that I probably will never know or understand because I am not God or divine.

yeah sorry, I'm not a pastor nor do i attend seminary so my theology might be incorrect, but i'm pretty sure, that we cannot become God...once again, unless it is his will. But how can I, a mere man compared to the almighty God, use my own intellect to try to comprehend what is best??

i have a mormon friend and he said that he believes in the bible also. I think in isaiah, somewhere, it says something about God saying there was no God before him nor will there be any Gods after him. But, once again im just sure. I would have to find the verse to be completely positive.

sorry for hte late reply, it said that it would email me regarding comments but it never did. now that i see it, how can it get my email??
haha, my email is This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

8. In response to Peter
The confusion I think you are having here is the diffrence between an exalted being (also called a god)and God.

The Prophet Isaiah is right there is One God, God the Father and there is no God before or after him he is the supreme ruler of the Universe and we can never become him, ever.

He does want us to become like him and exalted being. We know through the Bible that we are joint heirs in Christ and will inherit everything he does if we are faithful and true to the Commandments and live Christ like lives.

So we inherit the same glory, power, honor, and immortality of Christ. This state is called exaltation, we inherit godhood through Christ but we are never God. There is only One God Elohim the Eternal Father and everything submits to him even the Son and the Holy Ghost submit to his will, which is somewhat irrelevant since the will of the Father is the will of the Son and the Holy Ghost because they are united in purpose.

I hope this clarifies things for you and I appreciate your question Peter!

9. that works,
sorry for the very late reply, but that sounds much better than saying that I myself become God.

As long as there are no contradictions with the bible... yes I can totally agree that we will no longer be the same.
