1. Women and working
The short answer is yes. There is no commandments about women not working. Lots and lots of mormon women work. But you will see in the church that there is a very definite emphasis that families and children have supreme importance. Once there are children in the home there is great expectations that they have highest priority and that we as families should do everything we can to provide the love, attention, and nurture they need.

But yes - there is a significant percentage of mormon women who work.

2. My Wife Does
Mormon women do work inside and outside the home!

Almost all Mormon women work outside the home before they start having children. Once they start having children a parent will stay at home to ensure there children are being raised in a loving and appropriate manner.

We take child rearing very seriously and see it as something God will hold us personally accountable for hence we do not have our children in daycare while both parents work.

Traditionally the mother says at home and the father is the breadwinner but this is not doctrine or policy of the Church.

There are stay at home dad's and in rare cases two working parents with kids in daycare. Child rearing is a personal decision and the council given is wise to take heed to and keep one parent at home to rear the children but it is not doctrine or policy.

Family is a focus but it up to each couple to decide how to rear there children!

Thank you Erica for this question!

I hope my answer helps you!
