Confirming the Book of Mormon PDF Print E-mail

This is kind of a part 2 to a previous question I asked (answer to my prayers). I was told that in order for GOD to answer my prayers on if the Book of Mormon is true or not I have to attend church every Sunday and study the scriptures real hard and pay tithing and avoid sinning as much as I possibly can to show GOD that I am serious about joining his church. I now know what to do but I would like to know what the experience was like for other Mormons when they received confirmation from GOD that the Book of Mormon was true. I know i'll have to spend months maybe even years in scripture study to truly understand the message behind the Bible and the Book of Mormon which I am willing to spend how ever long it takes. But my question is how will I know if GOD has answered my prayer on the Book of Mormon and the LDS church?

1. Still small voice
I testimony of the holy scriptures is gained through the still small voice of the Holy Ghost. It can be very difficult to receive testimony. I myself after 7 years a member am still gaining my testimony of the Scriptures each day.

Pray and scripture study is the best way to receive that testimony, and it can come in various ways. Mine was subtle and very low key as I studies the Book of Mormon I went from skeptical, to open minded, to interested, to knowing it was not a work of men but of God.

Now at the point I don't know if I was ready to proclaim from the hill tops the Church is true, but I did know that the Book or Mormon was not the creation of a teenage boy like most try and say it is.

My testimony of the Book of Mormon as well as my testimony of the Church, grew the most when I studied the Holy Bible.

My studies of the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price re-enforced this testimony.

Testimony is a lifetime process and one that is rewarding if you choose to undertake it.

2. Testimony
I think you may have been somewhat misinformed regarding how God answers prayers. He does not require months or years of church attendance, intense scripture study, paying of tithing and all. What he does require is sincerity and real intent. I have seen many people receive this answer to their prayers within a day or two of honest prayer. God knows our hearts. He knows whether we are praying just to satisfy our curiosities or whether we are truly searching to know His will. He knows whether we are praying to know what He wants us to do or whether we are praying to know what we can get away with.
If a person is truly sincere and has a desire to know the truth; if he has spent some time reading the scriptures and contemplating their message; if he has truly considered what a positive confirmation from God would mean and how it would change his life and if he has a real intent to make the necessary changes in his life in order to know God; if conditions are met, God is very willing to answer the prayers of that person through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Now, how does this answer come? What does it mean "by the power of the Holy Ghost"?

The Holy Ghost manifests himself in various manners and it can be different for every person but He is most often described as a still small voice. That is not to say that it is an audible voice that we hear, although for some it may be, but most often it is an inward feeling of peace and joy and assurance, often very profound. It may be accompanied by a warm sensation that washes over your body or a tingling feeling. The Doctrine and Covenants describes it as a burning in the bosom. You really don't know how God speaks to you specifically until He does, but when He does you should know it.

3. I kinda see what you're saying
Ever since I was ten I had spent my free time studying other religions to try and find an answer to our existence. When I came across the Latter Day Saints about two years ago there was something about it that kept me interested in it and something about this religion felt right and I studied more into this religion a lot longer than I have any other religion. Do you think that could possibly be the answer that GOD has given me?

4. God speaks in many ways
I think that if you believe that is how God is talking to you then it is. Heavenly Father speaks to each of us differently because we are all different and there is no one size fits all for salvation.

I would suggest that what you r conscience and your heart tells you is what Heavenly Father desires for you, IF you are honestly and sincerely seeking his will for you life.
