If God will not intervene to prevent bad things from happening, then why would He choose to intervene to provide good things (ask and ye shall receive) even though it is contrary to His nature? I'm having a hard time praying because I can't answer this question.

1. Answer to why we pray
One of the blessing of having the Gift of the Holy Ghost is that we will always have his spirit to be with us as we are living worthy.

Our Heavenly Father Loves all of his children and if it is not our time to die or if it He feels it necessary to intervene through the Holy Ghost to keep us safe He will. I know He hears my prayers and I know that as I pray he can direct me for good.

He can give us blessings only as we qualify and ask for them. He is not bound to bless us if we are disobedient to his commandments. God is bound to bless us when we obey. If we obey and pray for blessings the Lord will bless us I know he does.

The Bible Dictionary helps us know the True Doctrine behind "PRAYER"

As soon as we learn the true relationship in which we stand toward God (namely, God is our Father, and we are his children), then at once prayer becomes natural and instinctive on our part (Matt. 7: 7-11). Many of the so-called difficulties about prayer arise from forgetting this relationship. Prayer is the act by which the will of the Father and the will of the child are brought into correspondence with each other. The object of prayer is not to change the will of God, but to secure for ourselves and for others blessings that God is already willing to grant, but that are made conditional on our asking for them. Blessings require some work or effort on our part before we can obtain them. Prayer is a form of work, and is an appointed means for obtaining the highest of all blessings.
