Do LDS observe lent? Why and/or why not?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has no official position on Lent that I know of.  
 
Individual members have the option of worshiping in that manner if they so choose.  
 
The Church does monthly fasts on the first Sunday of each month called Fast Sunday, but besides that any fasting it by personal decision and the Holy Ghosts promptings.
