I'm a non-member moving into a predominately Mormon community. I have two concerns:
1. Being accepted into social circles (making friends)
2. Being able to hire and have people work for me

From what I've read, I can't quite figure out if these are valid concerns or not. Are they?

1. No worries
Katherine, you really should have no concerns. I have found that living in an predominatly Mormon community is all about attitude. Mormons are some of the most friendly giving people I have ever met. Many people from out of state have such a concern of Mormons that they "avoid" any contact and alienate themselves and feel the Mormons are giving them the cold shoulder. Yes you will get invited to activities and it will be fun. You may even be invited to hear about their religion. You may respectfully decline and the subject won't be broached again and the friendship remains.

As for work and employees... people are people and people want jobs. You won't find a more honest or industrius people.

2. it's cool
In the gospel we are asked to love everyone and be kind to everyone regardless of race, gender, or creed. We believe in letting people worship whatever they want, or not worshiping at all.

However, I would like to make a distinction. Although we believe the LDS doctrine and teachings are perfect, that does notmean we as human beings are perfect. I live in a predominately mormon community, and I have to say, it really depends. Although the gospel teaches to be kind to everyone, not everyone lives up to it. We're imperfect. I have witnessed people try to shove the LDS religion on people, or stop being friends with someone because they didn't get baptized into the church. These occurrences are rare and do not reflect our actual doctrine, so don't take it as a mormon attribute, but rather just as the individual himself.

I've never seen any problems with the hiring. My dad who is LDS has hired only one other mormon to work for him.
