Why do Mormons try to convert other Christians? PDF Print E-mail

My soul is saved. I'm going to see God and Jesus when I die, so how come it seems that the Mormons seem to want us to convert so bad. We are Christians we believe in the same God as you do. Shouldn't they be happy that we are going to Heaven just like they are. What's so important that we have to convert so bad? Is it just that they need people on their side?

11. The path to salvation
Annelise you said that your are saved and when you die your going to see God and Jesus Christ.

The reason why we take the Good News of the Restored Gospel to Christians of other denominations is to help ensures that they do see God and Jesus when the Day of Judgement comes and that they live with them for all eternity in the Celestial Kingdom of Heaven.

In order for this to happen one must be baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying of hands upon there head.

These two mandatory ordinances (as commanded by Christ in John 3:5) must be performed by someone holding the proper priesthood authority of God in order to be recognized by God.

Have you been baptized and confirmed by someone holding the proper priesthood authority as commanded by Christ?

Unless you are a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints this cannot be so. Our Church has the only proper priesthood authority to bind and loose on Earth and Heaven that was given the the Prophet and Apostle Peter.

This authority was conferred to the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1829 when he was called to restore the one true Church of Christ to the Earth in preparation for the second coming of Christ.

So unless you have had these two ordinances performed for you by a authorized priesthood holder then you are risking your celestial inheritance and the ability to return to the presence of the Father after being Judged by Jesus Christ.

This is why we take the message of the Restoration to everyone especially people of other Christian denominations. We desire to see everyone return to God and enter into the Celestial Kingdom and return to the presence of God our Heavenly Father!

Thank you Annelise for the question!

I hope that my answer helps!

Let\'s think about another aspect of this...Why does a religion that emphasizes family as being so important feel that it is okay to tear apart families that are non-Mormon? I am referring to the recruitment of teens from other Christian faiths by LDS teens in high school. Your response above (wanting everyone to go to the highest eternal glory) is admirable, but doesnt\' ease the pain a parent feels when they lose their child to the \"Restored Gospel,\" a doctrine that they don\'t believe.

13. Family Love Doesn't Change
Ess, I don't understand why the parent is "losing" their child. If a parent isn't openminded enough to give any religion a chance, or at least let their child make their own decisions about life, then they are tearing apart their own family.
I have family members who have decided the LDS church isn't for them, and our family still accepts and loves them, though we are still LDS and they aren't. So why can't it go the other way when a Baptist or Catholic family has some children decide that they don't believe anymore? Shouldn't they still love each other even if they don't agree on religion?
The LDS religion is based around families, yes, because we are all God's children, and He wants us to live with Him again. We are encouraged to be sealed in the temple so we can be together forever. Families should be a place you can turn when everyone else lets you down. They are people who know you best and who love you for all your shortcomings. The LDS church encourages love in the home. When difference of religion separates a family, it should not change the status of love between family members, just as difference of favorite color or college major, financial difficulty or a bad day should not affect the love of a family.

14. in reference to the degrees of heaven
in 1Corinthians 15:40-42 where it discusses the sun, moon, and stars all each having their own glory, how than does one derive that one glory is greater than the other? no where in that passage or in those surrounding it( context clues as we are taught) does it state that one is greater than the other. so if we are to pass on and become a part of these glory's who is to say which one is greater? where is it anywhere biblical or even BOM does it place the separation? as I would love to see, as I am always interested in researching any of this.( I own all of the standard works) also is it the belief that if you are in the Celestial kingdom over the other two that you will be in the presence of God more so than if in the others? even though you still consider all Christ believers as going to "heaven" just a curiosity.

very respectfully.
