How does the church feel about plastic surgery to enhance your body?  Is there any official doctrine or stance?

1. Use good judgement
As far as I know there is no written-in-stone official doctrine on this other than that we regard our bodies as temples and should treat them as such.

Practically speaking, it is perfectly acceptable to have plastic surgery done to repair physical deformations such as cleft pallette, or damage from injuries or illness such as burns or breast cancer.

On the other hand, if the surgery is being sought to simply get a better looking nose or a more shapely figure, I think Heavenly Father might take a little offense at that. God wants us to have a healthy self-esteem but turning yourself into Kim Kardashian is not the way to get that. Living the gospel, developing a good relationship with God and serving those around you will go a lot farther towards that goal and cost you a LOT less money.

2. Seek the spirit and follow the prophets
I do not see the Church taking any action against a member for having cosmetic surgery. It is something though that I strongly believe that they would have to repent for, nothing is further from the Gospel of Jesus Christ than the vanity of cosmetic surgery.

Changing one's appearance is not in concert with the Gospel. We are created by Heavenly Father and he mad each of us lovingly. Any deformities or aging (as well as cosmetic surgeries) will not exists in the resurrection anyway, so ultimately it is a waste of money and time.

3. Be satisfied with GOD's handiwork
Wouldn't be like getting a tattoo or body piercing. Cosmetic/plastic surgery for vanity or to change GOD's handiwork, wether it be a deformaty or not? Anyone can call it a different name or justify it for their own reason, but it is all body modification. Nose job, tattoo, ear piercings, (Orthodontics)braces, body piercings, breast augumentation. It is all in the same catergory.
It's like a mother who had a tummy tuck and just paid for one child's braces and ears to be pierce, being outraged by the other child who got a tattoo and tongue pierced. It GOD's eyes it is all the same. Defying thy temple....interesting question.

4. Be satisfied with GOD's handiwork
Ive always thought plastic surgery for vain reasons were just plain wrong. As ive taken a different outlook on it, i really think it has to do with the desires and personal issues/efforts of why theyre getting plastic surgery. Its one thing when someone goes in to recieve liposuction thats done everything they can to lose weight compared to someone who has put half effort. Or, someone who recieves breast augmentation to just LOOK bigger when they already have adequite breast size, compared to someone who has little to no breast tissue/too much and it enterfiers with daily function and modesty. If you have done all the seeking and studying and pschologicl healing that you could possibly do and its still an option for GOoD reasons, it may just be ok before god. But if he were to ask you to give up the "plastic" would you? Keep your hearts pure constantly and plastic surgery shouldnt alter your level of vanity!
