Will I see my family in heaven? PDF Print E-mail

Recently I had a friend whose parents both passed away within the past year. He was very distraught about their passing given that they were now gone and wouldn't see them anymore. It got me thinking about my own parents and family. I personally think and hope that I will be able to see them in heaven, but its not something that I hear much about. I had a mormon friend who mentioned this idea some years ago. Do you still believe this?

1. Families can be forever
Doctrine are eternal truths that never change so yes the Church still proclaims that Families can be forever. You will see your family members again in the afterlife and you will your friend. Also Family ties can last forever if the family is sealed together through the Priesthood power of God in a Holy Temple. This is the center of our faith, that our families are eternal units that will endure forever if we faithfully follow the will of the Lord and obtain the ordinances of Salvation.

I encourage you to learn more at mormon, org and find out how your family can become and eternal family!

2. Families can be forever
LDS guy, thanks for all the time you spend on here, I've noticed you answer a lot of questions. I have a related question to this thread and though I've asked other Mormons, I haven't received an answer I understand yet, and I didn't see it anywhere I tried searching on mormon websites (all to say, I hope this doesn't sound unnecessarily confrontational, but I have tried more 'private' ways to find out the answer). In commercials and printed material, LDS spokesmen talk frequently of what will happen to us when we die, how God has a plan, etc....But those are all questions long answered similarly by other Christians. My question is more to the point of the slogan, "Families are forever." I used to think that simply meant what my Catholic upbringing taught me - that we can be reunited in Heaven. But as I've learned more about LDS, I understand you teach three levels of heaven, and that - if I understand correctly - your family unit will be physically together, the spouses still producing children. If that is not an exaggeration, what does it mean?
Specifically, how will my family - husband and my kids and I - be together in more than the traditional Christian meaning of the term (with the whole human race who made it to heaven), if my mother and dad would also want me living with their family unit, and my husband's would want him, etc....It seems like EITHER the LDS church is teaching nothing new, though it seems to want to, OR families really will be together in smaller units, in which case where would I be? Would some version of me be with my parents, another with my kids? Also, how will families be together if they wind up in different levels of heaven? If each person fulfills their ultimate destiny - godhood - wouldn't family members, in fact, be on separate planets?

Again, sorry if I sound confrontational, but since your church is very eager to share its message publicly, I'm hoping you'll realize curiosity by others is natural. Thanks!
