Comment in question Response to Joe Alcohol is not an oxidant. It is converted to acetaldehyde by alcohol dehydrogenase and eventually to acetate. Thus, alcohol is actually oxidized making it a reductant (the opposite of a oxidant). Ethanol in high amounts is toxic, but if consumed at low levels has actually been shown to have beneficial effects in regards to heart disease. Thus, if you drink, do it responsibly.
