Doctrine Vs. Practice
As far as my opinion goes,.....

The Church definately recognizes that polygamy was practiced in the early days of the Church. Joseph Smith did recieve revelation regarding it, and about practicing it.

Polygamy was never practiced and sanctioned to be a "Church Wide" practice. Rather it was practiced with relatively few members.

The official end to the practice of polygamy came when Wilford Woodruf made an Official Declaration to the World, as published as "Official Declaration 1" at the end of the doctrine and covenants.

Most questions can be answered by refering to that document.

The Church never condemned nor denounced the practice while it was authorized, and sanctioned by the Lord. However, due to the direction of the Lord, and other things stated in "Official Declaration 1" that Wilford Woodruf makes reference to, the practice was stopped.

Did they denounce the doctrine? No. Did they stop the Practice? Yes.

Hope that helps!
Phillip
