Comment in question yes, they were Yes, some of the early church leaders were Masons. Masonism is not a religion but rather a group or brotherhood. In those days, there were men from all sorts of religious backgrounds that belonged to Masonry. If you ask a Mason today if Masonism is a religion, he'll tell you "no".
